How and why I have tattoos is a story for another time. The peace sign is on the nape of my neck; the dove of peace on my shoulder. One of my personal anthems is, “Let there be Peace on Earth and Let it Begin With Me.” Which explains my choice of tats. They are very simple outlines and not very big. They are there for me. I’m a peacenik. A true pacifist.
This is Easter Sunday. My friend, Leslie phoned to invite me to attend church with her. I gladly accepted because she piqued my curiosity about the congregation during previous conversations.
I don’t recall how long it has been since I attended a church service. All I knew was that I didn’t need to don an Easter bonnet. So, I was “in.” I dressed and selected a pair of dove earrings for the day.
Leslie picked me up as scheduled, the church was a short ride across one of the main highways here in my new locale. It is pretty straight forward. I will be able to find my way back after Leslie returns to Canada for the summer.
As she drove, Leslie explained to me how she was lead to this particular church and congregation. Hers is not my story to tell. Suffice it to say, it was the right place at the right time for her. Leslie is still very excited about being part of the small, seeminly intimate congregation. Her excitement and enthusiasm is infectious. Just as we pulled into a parking spot she mentioned that on Friday mornings, there is a group meeting to discuss “A Course in Miracles.” * at this church. www.UnityDunedin.org For longer than I can recall, I have owned the book.
More than once, I have picked up my copy of “A Course in Miracles,” read a few pages and put it aside. In Miami I inquired about joining a group – but it was in Spanish. I could walk blind folded to the book on my shelf right now. Maybe now is the right time for me to pursue the course.
Inside the doors of the church, everyone exchanged greetings with Leslie as she introduced me to each congregat. I quickly noticed the collection of angels placed throughout the foyer. I have a collection of angels. The woman who facilitates “A Course in Miracles” was introduced to me. The church is very simply appointed. The wall behind the podium has a carved pair of (presumably) angel wings and a dragon fly (I also have dragon fly earrings). “Synchronicity is the law of unity.” **
To the left of the podium, on the window leading into the library/store hangs a twelve inch more or less circle filled with a dove. All of these things served to make me feel comfortable about being “there.” The service began shortly after we found seats. Two women, singing at the podium were accompanied, by an organist music.
The congregation sang. The Spiritual Leader conducted the service through till the end when she invited everyone to sing the closing/traditional song.
“Let there be peace on earth ***
And let it begin with me. ( modified they sang “and it began with me”)
Let there be peace on earth
The peace that was meant to be.
With God as our father
Brothers all are we.
Let me walk with my brother
In perfect harmony.”
Signs? Coincidence? Synchronicity? Right place at the right time? I’m not sure. But after seeing the movie, “Miracles From Heaven” recently, I have been trying to give up some of my “control issues” and just let the energy of the universe direct me. It may be working.
